Frequently Asked Questions

You are about to make an investment into your property, and we expect you to ask questions.  We’ve gathered a list of some of the more frequently asked questions about our fencing services.

  • What is your service area?
YT Fencing provides residential fencing installations as well as commercial fencing all over the Gulf Coast ( from Mobile, AL - Loxley, AL).
  • How long does a fence installation take?
It really depends on many factors, the type of fence, length, and site conditions all contribute to how long it takes. Generally speaking though, an average job here in the Gulf Coast takes 1-2 days for most wooden or steel fences.
  • How much does a fence cost?
Different styles of fences carry different costs to build, the length of the fence obviously determines cost as well. On average the cost of a typical residential fence is $2,500.00 to $3,500.00 for a typical lot size in the Gulf Coast area. Some are less and some are much, much more. We have installed plenty of fences over $30,000 on residential applications.
  • Do you warranty your work?
Yes, we warranty our work against defects in installation. Many of our metal fence products also come with a manufacturers warranty.
  • My question is not listed here. How do I get in contact with you?
You can give us a call at 251-395-4009, or contact us via our contact form.
  • Does my fence need to have concrete around the posts?
YES! All fence posts should have a concrete foundation around them! Our foundations are usually excavated in virgin soil and reach 2’ deep while being anywhere from 6” in Dia. To 10” in Dia. depending on the post size.
  • How far apart should the fence posts be?
Typically just under 8’ as a rule, we work with dimensional lumber that is 8’ long. Some sections can be a little smaller or up to 10’ when need to reach a corner or end point but nothing longer than 10’ is acceptable.
  • Do I need to stain or paint my new wooden fence?
No, you do not “need” to have your new wooden fence stained but it will help with longevity and aesthetics over time. An unstained fence will provide you with a good service life but over time it will grey from the sun and the elements. A stained fence will last years longer depending on which product is used and will look more pleasing to the very end.
  • How long will my wood fence last?
Wooden fences today usually last 7-12 years depending on many factors, Moisture content in the ground, sun exposure, etc. Prior to 2004 fences lasted closer to 15 years as a rule but in 2004 the EPA, after being petitioned, ruled that Arsenate must be removed form the chemical composition used in the pressure treating process thus leaving the pressure treating industry scrambling for alternatives. The treatment today is not as effective as is it was prior to this ruling hence the shorter lifespan of wooden fences.
  • Should I build with pressure treated pine or cedar?
Pressure treated lumber privacy fences needs to have (3) 2x4 framing runners to keep the fence pickets from bowing, cedar needs only two because it is kiln dried before installation and does not need to cure in the elements. Picket fences are typically 4’ tall and only need 2(2) 2x4’s due to the smaller span between framing runners.
  • How many 2x4's should be on my wood privacy fence?
